Samantha Fruchey, Bluffton senior, will participate in the District 8 All-Star volleyball match held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Bluffton University’s Sommer Center.
Fruchey is on the Division I-II-III East team. Coaching the East team is Cristy Gray, Liberty Benton and Mike Etzler, Coldwater.
In addition, Andie Schmutz of Bluffton was named to the Division I-II-III all-district second team.
By Sam Brauen For the 12 Pirate seniors, there was no better way to walk off Harmon Field than with a big win under their belts. Bluffton dominated Crestview 41-28 to move to 6-3 and keep their playoff push alive.
Bluffton is now 6-3 and ninth in the most recent OHSAA computer rankings. The top eight teams make the postseason. The Pirates will look for win number seven at Columbus Grove Friday.
The Bluffton High School boys' soccer team have several reason to cheer.
• The varisty won the Northwest Conference title at 5-0
• Tucker Routson, senior, was voted the 2015 Northwest Conference player of the year
• Steve Smucker, BHS coach, was selected as NWC coach of the year.
This season was the first-ever season for boys' soccer as a conference sport in the NWC.
Several other Pirates received all-league honors. Tristan Smucker, sophomore, Antony Kingsley, junior, and Cole Harlow, senior, were named the NWC first team along with Routson.
Kevin King of Bluffton was voted NWC Coach of the Year by his peers in voting that took place earlier this week. Bluffton finished 5-3 in the NWC and 10-12 overall in a rebuilding year for the Pirates.
Bluffton players, Andie Schmutz, junior, was named to the first team, Haley Baker, junior, to the second team and Sami Fruchey, senior, honorable mention.
