Before there was refrigeration, there was fermentation. While fermented foods may seem like a new trend, it is actually one of the oldest ways to preserve food, dating back thousands of years.

Why is meal-planning such a headache? Now that school is back in session, everyone's schedule is getting busier. I decided to take the hassle out of my meal-planning and get a Fresh Meal box from The Dough Hook.
Local artist Oscar Velasquez is exhibiting several of his paintings at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton, through September. Most people know Velasquez, a Pandora native, as a painter of large murals on area buildings.
His works at MMH include landscapes, flowers and scenes familiar to the region. The exhibit is located on the third floor, near the Chapel. Paintings attached are titled “Lake View” and “Three Peasant Girls.”
The Bluffton elementary playground opened its green space area this month. The school board purchased two properties in 2017 to add a grass area on the playground and for possible future expansion. The second photos shows one of the two properties previously on the expanded playground land.

An early October dedication and ribbon cutting opens the newest segment of the ever-expanding Bluffton Lions Way Pedestrian Pathway, according to Richard Ramseyer, chair of the pathway board.
The newest leg of the pathway is a nine-tenth mile Bentley Road path. The ceremony is at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 2.
