Part of Red Cross response to Hurricane Florence

American Red Cross volunteer Steve Mahler of Rawson is being deployed to Durham, N.C., as part of the Red Cross response to Hurricane Florence.  Mahler will be serving with the Disaster Assessment team.

This is his third recent deployment.  In July, Steve deployed to Des Moines, Iowa, serving as a Recovery specialist following flooding in the city.   He then deployed to Marshalltown, Iowa, after a tornado struck the community as part of the Disaster Assessment team.

Mahler will be leaving from Toledo Express Airport early Sept. 13 for a two week deployment.

\The Bluffton University Men's Soccer Team was back on the Alumni Field turf for the second time in five days when the Beavers hosted Ohio Christian University on a comfortable Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018. Ohio Christian hit paydirt with just over five minutes to play in overtime period one for a 2-1 victory. The Beavers dipped to 1-4, while OCU evened its season mark at 3-3.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive on Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 8:30 to 2 p.m. in the Bluffton High school gymnasium.

Freshman Caitlin Dailey finished 29th of 295 runners in the Girls Division II / III race Saturday at the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival.  Dailey completed the 5K course in 23:52. 

On the boys side, BHS finished 27th of 32 teams. Individual Pirate finishers:

The Lady Pirate tennis squad nearly swept Western Buckeye League foe Elida Tuesday afternoon.  The Pirates took all but one match on their way to a 4-1 victory. 

1st Singles: Erin Hotmire defeated Annie Sayoto 6-2, 6-3

2nd Singles: Olivia Barnes fell to Madalyn Schamber 4-6, 0-6 

3rd Singles: Raychel Avlia defeated Beatrice Yomul 6-0, 6-2

1st Doubles: Emma Klinger & Caity Zimmerman defeated Piper Lang & Lexi Hartzler 6-3, 6-2

Bluffton's boys soccer team ripped off their fifth win in a row with a 5-1 road triumph at Lincolnvew.  The Pirates are now 5-0-2 overall and 3-0 in Northwest Conference play.  The Lancer goal tonight was the first opponent goal allowed in a NWC match this season.
