Bluffton's twin peaks may disappear

Stakeholders in the Interstate 75 bridges over the abandon AC&Y Railroad north of State Route 103 last week heard ODOT’s plans to remove the bridges.

Bluffton Family Recreation, 215 Snider Road, provided the Icon with a printer- friendly version of its weekly schedule for April and May.

Activities take place seven days a week.
• Sunday hours are 1 to 5 p.m.
• Monday through Friday hours are 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Here's the Cory-Rawson High School band. It's marching in the 1986 Bluffton 125th anniversary parade. Merlin Marshall, director, is with the band, on the left side of the photo.

Merlin's son, John, relates this interesting story about this photo. He says:

"I had forgotten about those beautiful green pants! That was taken on the day of my brother Rick's wedding at Bethel Church on 30, east of 235 outside Ada. That's right, we marched in the parade, went home, cleaned up and got ready for the wedding.  Boy was that a hot day!

ADA ICON is on a maroon Impala in Ada driven by Monty Siekerman, editor of Ada Icon. We've tried to create a similar plate for Bluffton Icon, but can't figure out how to shorten the letters properly. We'll take suggestions from viewers.

Barbara A. Hopson, 77, died on Saturday, April 15, 2018, at 8:35 AM at Willow Ridge at Mennonite Home Community, Bluffton, Ohio.

She was born on July 25, 1940 in Lima, Ohio to the late Dewitt I. "Dig" and Maxine (Smith) Goodwin. 

On Aug. 11, 1956 Barbara married Larry R. Hopson who preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1993.

Barbara managed several Lawson's and Dairy Mart stores for many years include Ada, Lima and Kenton.

She then owned and operated Kibbee's Carryout in Bluffton before retirement in 2010.

Three BHS juniors are Girls' and Boys' State selections

Three Bluffton High School juniors were selected recently to attend their respective Girls' State and Boys' State in June.

Selected to attend Girls' State are Arielle E. O'Neal and Ashley Eachus. Selected to attend Boys' State is Tanner Pinks.

The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 and Bluffton Lions Club sponsor these students. American Legion Buckeye Boys State is held at Miami University, Oxford, June 10-17.
