November is full of events at Bluffton University. Here is the calendar for the month. Events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted
Nov. 2-5 Fall Play: “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller, 7:30 p.m., Ramseyer Auditorium, College Hall. Tickets, $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and non-Bluffton students, are available online at https://tickets.bluffton.edu or at the Marbeck Center information desk. William H. Kose, M.D., and Katherine Kreuchauf will serve as the University of Findlay’s College of Business Dana Chairs this academic year.
Kose, senior vice president of medical affairs and chief quality officer of Blanchard Valley Health System, will serve as the Dana Chair for the 2017 fall semester.
One of the busiest months of the year is one week away, as the Bluffton Public Library announces its November programming/
The annual Holiday Gift Silent Auction begins at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, and ends Nov. 22 at 5 p.m. This is a great place to check some gifts off your holiday gift list and benefit your library (and community) at the same time. Each package has a “Buy Now” price, as well as a minimum start bid. Anonymous bidding is available upon request.
Editor’s note: This story sounds like a worn-out urban legend. The problem is that this happened to the grandfather of the guy who told me the story.
Is Bluffton haunted?
No. Or, maybe. Well, yes, but, there’s no such thing.
It’s late October. For a moment, let’s say it is haunted. Perhaps this short, unexplained story that took place in Bluffton in the 1890s will assist in your decision-making.
An elderly Bluffton gentlemen told this to me in 1978. The incident took place on North Main Street, just across the bridge over Riley Creek.
Members of the Bluffton University Social Work Club will go trick-or-canning during Bluffton’s trick-or-treat festivities.
Social Work majors will be going door to door asking for donations of canned foods, dried foods and hygiene products from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26.
The club will be collecting nonperishable items only. No monetary donations will be accepted. Donations will be delivered to the Bluffton Community Assistance Corporation food pantry.
Dwight D. Bixel, 84, of Bluffton died at 10:26 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton. He was born Jan. 22, 1933, in Putnam County to the late Stanley and Edith (Burkholder) Bixel. In 1955, he married Clarabeth (Diller) Bixel and she survives.
Dwight was a farmer, a former director of the Ohio Soybean Board and served as director for the G.W. Sugar Refinery. He had also been a member of the Lima Farmer’s Club.
