You have until Nov. 22 to check out the library's assortment of items

If you like silent auctions better hurry to the Bluffton Public Library before Nov. 22.

This year's holiday gift silent auction opened on Nov. 1. Each item features  a "buy now price" as well as a starting bid. Anonymous bidding is available upon request, according to the library staff.

Among this year's auction items include gift baskets, music lessons, art and dance lessons, tickets to various museums and theatres, whitewater rafting and skiing/tubing.

Two Bluffton's rookie auctioneers proved their worth at the Nov. 1 Dare to Dream Lions Foundation auction that benefits the Bluffton pathway program. Greg Denecker and Kevin Gratz worked the crowd with other professional auctioneers. The results was over $20,000 raised for pathways. A specific amout raised will be announced soon.

Darby Prichard, a Bluffton High School senior, is the Bluffton Icon's school artist of the month.

She has taken Art 1, Ceramics 1 and Ceramics 2 and plans to join the National Guard and eventually study to become a mechanical engineer.

"I'm currently working on making a ceramic nativity scene. I enjoy art because I can take a vision or an idea and be creative to actually make my ideas come to life," she said. "Ceramics is a great way to use creativity and uniqueness to get experience working with your hands to create art."

Barbara Ann Engle, 79, died on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at 4:40 p.m. at Willow Ridge, Bluffton.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1937, in Auglaize County, Ohio, to the late Frank and Thelma (Hadsel) Underwood.

On Aug. 20, 195,5 Barbara married Phillip E. Engle and he preceded her in death on Aug. 13, 1998.

Barbara formerly worked for Essex Wire of Kenton.

She later retired from the Allen County Children Services, Lima.

Barbara was a member of the County Line Church of the Brethren of Harrod and a former member of the Order of Eastern Stars of Waynesfield.

Nov. 14 forum presented by Dr. Mark Bourassa

Dr. Mark Bourassa, assistant dean of students and director of the University Event Complex, will present the Forum, "Bluffton's Honor Code in the World," at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Yoder Recital Hall. 

During the presentation, Bourassa will examine the historical context of honor codes in the United States as well as Bluffton University. Bourassa will also reflect on the impact of creating individual cultures of integrity through the honor code.

Bluffton's downtown Christmas garlands will be installed by the Bluffton Fire Department on Saturday, Nov. 11, starting at 8 a.m., according to Paula Scott, of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce.

"If your business participates in the garland program, Fire Chief Jon Kinn asks that you place the garlands outside your location the night before. They need to be ready to go," she said.
