Maxine Y. McCafferty, 86, died Jan. 9, 2017, at 4:30 a.m. at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  Maxine was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Bluffton to the late Louis and Gladys (Schick) Criblez.  She married Max McCafferty who preceded her in death on June 6, 1989.

Maxine was a homemaker and had been a janitor at Triplett Corporation, Bluffton.  She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Bluffton. 

Bluffton High School varsity wrestlers participated in a two-day meet at Defiance High School  "Border Wars" during the Christmas holidays. The meet included teams from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.  DeAndre Nassar, a BHS sophomore, took third place in his weight class in an exciting overtime match.

Longtime Lima-area medical oncologist Dr. Henry Gerad has joined Hematology & Oncology Associates, part of Blanchard Valley Medical Practices. Dr. Gerad will see patients at a new satellite location of The Armes Family Cancer Care Center located within Bluffton Hospital, 139 Garau St.
 

Ted Yoder here Thursday in Town Hall Series

The first Bluffton Town Hall Series performance of 2017 is Ted Yoder and his hammered dulcimer, according to Wendy Chappell Dick.

He performs in the third floor of the town hall, 154 N. Main St., at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 12.

Here's what Wendy says about the musician: "Ted’s fame started with being named the 2010 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion and has evolved from there.

Alyssa Casemier, Bluffton High School junior, is the Icon's BHS artist of the month. She has already taken  Art 1, Design 1, Design 2 and Ceramics 1.

Aylssa hopes to pursue an art education degree in college.

She says this about art: "When I am called an artist it is the greatest compliment that I can receive. With art, I have an outlet in which I can express my many personal experiences and how I see the world around me. Art is more than just a hobby for me, it is my life. Without it, I would be voiceless."

Chase Eikenbary of Jazzercise Bluffton invites Icon viewers to stop in for a Jazzercise class this week.

Classes are held at Bluffton University’s Sommer Center.
