McDonald’s Restaurant owner, Jerry Lewis, will present over $9,900 to 29 local teachers from 19 different school districts effecting more than 1,300 area students in just one school year. The check presentation and winner’s reception will be held at the N. West Street McDonald’s Restaurant in Lima at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20.

Since the MAC Grant program began in 2004, Jerry Lewis’ McDonald’s Restaurants have given more than $134,000 to more than 360 local teachers.

“With many educators in my family, I understand that there are a lot of things that teachers want to do for their students. The MAC Grant Program allows teachers to put on activities and purchase items that might not otherwise be possible.”

The funding for the MAC Grant program comes directly from food sales at Jerry Lewis’ area McDonald’s Restaurants.  Jerry Lewis offers this exciting educational initiative to assist area kindergarten through eighth grade teachers with their important job of educating young students.

Recognizing that lessons often become more meaningful when demonstrated with hands-on experiences, McDonald’s supplements regular classroom curriculum by supporting activities that the school’s budget may not allow.

The MAC, Make Activities Count, Grants of up to $400 can be used for a wide variety of programs, and since the ideas are being solicited from the teachers, the project ideas are limitless. This year awarded grants include learning about motion, how to run a business, making electrical circuits, observing and caring for animals and habitats, wind energy, making history come to life through reenactment and hands on activities and physical fitness equipment.
