"Carrie the Musical" set for Oct. 19-22 at ONU's Freed Center
Ohio Northern University music and theatre arts students will present "Carrie the Musical" at The Freed Center from Oct. 19-22.
The show is adapted from Stephen King's horror novel "Carrie" but has gone through many rewrites from the time the musical was originally produced in England to a limited 1988 Broadway production to an 0ff Broadway revival.
Briefly, here's the story: Carrie White is a misfit - awkward, unattractive, heavy. At school, she’s an outcast who’s bullied by the popular crowd and virtually invisible to everyone else.
At home, she’s at the mercy of her loving but cruelly over-protective mother who is described as domineering, aggressive, and a religious fanatic. But, Carrie’s just discovered she’s got a special power, and if pushed too far, she’s not afraid to use it.
The play will be staged at 7:30 p.m. from Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 19-22, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 21 and 22.
A post show discussion will take place following the 2 p.m. performance on Sunday, Oct. 22. The discussion will feature the artist staff and cast sharing their experiences and responding to questions and comments from the audience.
Tickets are available for $20 adults; $10 seniors; and $5 students and children by calling the box office at 419-772-1900. The musical is underwritten by Quest Federal Credit Union.
