National Night Out is back.

Bluffton’s most family-oriented event of the summer returns after a one-year cancellation, according to Matt Oglesbee, Bluffton police department lieutenant, heading up the event.

The evening generally attracts upwards to 2,500 persons.

This is the 7th Bluffton NNO celebration and it takes place Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Bluffton Community Swimming Pool.

As plans come together, here’s what is already set:
• Event is Tuesday, Aug. 3, 6 to 9 p.m., at Bluffton Community Swimming Pool
• Free admission
• All-day free admission to the swimming pool
• Bluffton, Beaverdam, Pandora fire and EMS major participants
• Fireworks at approximately 9:30 p.m., sponsored by Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce
• Rain date, Wednesday, Aug. 4

“We are hoping and planning to be able to host a great number of people again this year,” said Oglesbee.

 “We need volunteers and donations to make this possible and continue to use no taxpayer dollars and keep it a ‘leave your wallet at home’ event.” 

“Without the kind donations from people and organizations like you, this event wouldn’t be possible,” he added.

“We are accepting monetary and in-kind donations.”

Here’s how to volunteer
Individuals and groups interested in volunteering should contact Oglesbee. Two volunteer shifts are planned.
• The first from 5:15 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• The second from 7 to 9:15 p.m.
• Persons may volunteer for both shifts if interested

Volunteers should contact Oglesbee by Monday, July 6. This date will allow event organizers to make additional contacts if necessary.

“We are unsure what this year’s event will look like, and we realize it may be a little different than year’s past,” said Oglesbee. 

“We hope to not have any restrictions in August. However, if there are protocols put in place due to Covid-19, we will have to follow the protocols in place at the time of the event.”
