Hungarian musicians perform April 20 in Town Hall Series
Respected instrument maker and performing artist Bal'azs Nagy and bandmate Katalin Benno from Budapest, Hungary, will appear in at the Bluffton Town Hall Concert Series at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 20.
A soup supper at 6 p.m., will launch the event. Events are on the third floor of the town hall. Admission is free; donations are accepted.
The performances will feature Hungarian folk, Medieval, and Renaissance music on the hurdy gurdy, a mechanized wheeled, according to Wendy Chappell-Dick of the village cultural affairs committee.
Biographical information
Nagy makes hurdy gurdies of all styles and eras, but specializes in the Hungarian variant of the instrument, the tekerA'lant. As a folk musician he became interested in the instrument and began crafting detailed copies of museum pieces, which he later modified to live up to modern expectations of quality.
Today, his instruments are found all over the world. Music teacher Katalin BennA', together with Nagy, helped found the early music ensemble, The Bourdon Trio, and the Hungarian folk group, Ensemble T'altos.
They have been playing together steadily since 1984 and remain active members of the Hungarian music scene. For more information visit Bal'azs' website, www.musicart.hu
A simple supper of soup and bread will be available for sale before the performance.
