Mission trip takes local United Methodist parshioners to New Bern, North Carolina

The Rockport and Bluffton First United Methodist churches participated on a mission trip from July 6 through 13, to New Bern, North Carolina.
Dan Groman provided the follow account of the mission trip for the Icon:
This area was devastated by Hurricane Florence in September, 2018, followed by Hurricane Michael less than a month later. There was over $100 million in damage to homes and businesses in New Bern from these storms as the Neuse River rose from the storm surge.
Bluffton Presbyterian Church invites the community to an outdoor worship service at 9 a.m., Sunday, July 28, on the church front lawn, 112 N. Main St., according to Rev. Karol Farris pastor.
"The service will feature a jazz trio and a message on The Lord's Prayer. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, the service will be moved into the sanctuary," she said.
"Hero Central" is the theme of this week's Community Vacation Bible School where students are superheroes and discover their strengths through God. St. John's United Church of Christ is the host church. On Sunday, students met Kato, a local super hero, who is on the Bluffton police department. Several additional VBS photos are in this series.
Long-time Bluffton resident, Ellen Beach, will celebrate her birthday with an open house planned by her family. The event is from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 11, at 700 Maple Crest Court, Bluffton.
Bluffton Public Library hosts LEGO-building fun tomorrow, Wednesday, July 24 from 1-3 p.m. in the lower level room. Bring your own LEGOs or use the library's.
The 6th annual Bluffton/Pandora National Night Out is Tuesday, Aug. 6. The evening includes food and snacks, plenty of give-a-ways, fire truck displays and rides, face painting, bounce houses, live music.
