SR 309 intersections at Thayer and Napoleon roads targeted for redesign

Public meeting Wednesday at Allen East schools

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 will hold a public meeting to share proposed safety improvements for the intersections of state Route 309 at both Thayer and Napoleon roads, east of Lima­.

The meeting is  at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22,in the cafeteria at Allen East Local High School, 9105 Harding Highway, Harrod.

Chad Cupples will receive Combat Action Badge

Military Police Sergeant Chad R. Cupples will receive the Combat Action Badge from U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan in a ceremony at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Congressman’s office, 3121 W. Elm St., Lima.

*The Combat Action Badge (CAB) is a United States military award given to soldiers of the U.S. Army of any rank and who are not members of an infantry or special forces unit, for being "present and actively engaging or being engaged by the enemy, and performing satisfactorily in accordance with prescribed rules of engagement" at any point in time after Sept. 18, 2001.*

Join Transition Bluffton and representatives from Ottawa and Bluffton for an informational meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, on Bluffton’s water: where it comes from, how it’s treated and how it gets to Bluffton and our taps.  

Douglas Schroeder, Water Director, Village of Ottawa and Russell Bates, Waste Water Director, Village of Ottawa, will describe the treatment process in Ottawa before the water is piped to Bluffton.

Guy Rhodes was a former Bluffton Boy Scout troop leader

Funeral service Monday at First United Methodist

Guy Edward "Hop" Rhodes, 77, died Jan. 14, 2020, at the Ohio State University-Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

Guy was born Nov. 28, 1942, in Spencerville to the late Walter and Grace (Coil) Rhodes. On September 9, 1967 he married Susan Truesdale Rhodes who survives along with their five children and 12 grandchildren:

Pirate girls ground Rockets

Bluffton travels to Spencerville on Thursday

PANDORA - Visiting Bluffton whipped local rival Pandora-Gilboa 57-34 in non-conference girls basketball play Saturday afternoon.

Bluffton raced to a 23-8 margin after one period as senior post Libby Schaadt scored 12 points. The Lady Pirates led 36-13 at halftime and cruised to the blowout victory. 

The lopsided win improved the Pirate girls record to 11-3 overall. Struggling P-G dropped to 1-12 with the defeat.

Pirates lose two weekend contests

MIDDLE POINT - Visiting Bluffton was ambushed by a big Lincolnview second half in a 61-45 Lancer upset in Northwest Conference boys basketball play Friday evening.

The Pirates fell to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the NWC after having their four-game win streak snapped. Meanwhile, the Lancers improved to 6-6 and 2-1 in the NWC with the win.

Bluffton held the lead twice, initially at 25-24 in the second quarter and again at 30-28 in the third period. But the Lancers outscored the Pirates 35-20 in the second half to win going away.
