Keith Moyer, Mt. Cory HS grad, received Salvation Army's highest civilian award

A. Keith Moyer, 87, of Bluffton died at 7:52 p.m. March 7, 2015 at Bluffton Hospital.  He was born Feb. 13, 1928, in Bluffton to the late Floyd and Alice Steiner Moyer. On Nov. 22, 1952 he married Harriett Burkhart and she survives.

He was a retired professor and assistant director of student housing a the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was a member of the English Lutheran Church, Bluffton.

Bluffton Senior Citizens announce full spring schedule

Bluffton Senior Citizens will open its spring season Tuesday, March 24, with a trip to Columbus for lunch at Villa Milano Ballroom and a musical production featuring  impersonators of Barbra Streisand and Frank Sinatra in "Concert That Never Was." Participants will also tour the American Whistle factory, where they'll receive a souvenir. Cost is $82.

Also on the schedule:

April 9 -- Buffet dinner and Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “South Pacific” at LaComedia in Springboro. $80 includes visit to Friesinger’s Chocolates.

Bluffton United Way at the half-way point with $12,363 raised

The United Way of Bluffton, Beaverdam, and Richland Township current 2014-2015 campaign has raised $12,363.49, out of the campaign goal of $25,000, according to Neil Reichenbach, United Way treasurer.

"The percentage amount raised is 49.45%.  If you have not contributed please send your donation to Citizens National Bank Bluffton," he said.

MHCO provide $1,000 gifts to Weekday Christian Education and PGHS Atheletic Boosters

Mennonite Home Communities of Ohio (MHCO) provided checks of $1,000 each to Bluffton Release Time/Weekday Christian Education and the Pandora-Gilboa Athletic Boosters.

Presentations were made in Bluffton on Feb. 20 and in Pandora on March 3.

LaVonne Sommer, with her husband, operated Sommer Motor Sales in Pandora

N. LaVonne Sommer, 100, of Pandora, died at 10:08 a.m. March 6, 2015 at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora. She was born Sept. 20, 1914, in McComb to Walter A. and Tressa Rader Otto. On Sept. 26, 1936 she married James D. Sommer and he preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 1982. 

She co-owned and operated Sommer Motor Sales in Pandora. She was a member of Pandora United Methodist Church and a graduate of Rawson High School.
