Teams and partners now signing up to participate in Bluffton's Summer Olympics

If you think the summer Olympic games take place in Rio, you are partially correct. Bluffton will also host an Olympics of its own – and you can participate. 
 
Bluffton Family Recreation in cooperation with the Village of Bluffton and the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a one-day Bluffton Community Olympics on Saturday, July 30, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.
 
The event is still a work in progress, but here are some of the highlights:
 
• Proceeds from the Olympics will benefit the BFR’s new turf and equipment fund.
 

Free walking at BFR on Feb. 11

Mark Weidner takes advantage of a free walking day at Bluffton Family Recreation. BFR is in the midst of Keeping Active 2016. The program, which continues until Feb. 26 offers several free opportunities for area residents. One of those is the free use of the indoor walking track. Free walking will be available Thursday, Feb. 11, during BFR's hours of 5:30 am. to 9 p.m.

Tai Chi classes offered at BFR staring Feb. 4

Bluffton Family Recreation will offer classes in Tai Chi. Classes are held at 9 a.m. on Thursdays. The first class is Feb. 4, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.

Classes offer ways for participants to reduce stress, tai chi has evolved into a graceful form of exercise that's now used for stress reduction and a variety of other health conditions.

Often described as meditation in motion, tai chi promotes serenity through gentle, flowing movements.

BFR offers February "Fit for Life" membership

Bluffton Family Recreation offers its "Fit 4 Life" membership in February, according to Joseph Beagle, director.

The membership provides a six-week BFR membership, unlimited access to all BFR facilities including the indoor walking track, fitness center, arena and gymnasium. It also connects persons with a health coach to guide you through the six week period.

It also offers an "any class" fitness card for yoga, water aerobics, cardio and strength, total body conditioning and SilverSneakers.

Sign up your 4th-5th-6th grade bball team for tourney action

Bluffton Family Recreation will hold elementary-age boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments this winter, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director.
 
A fourth grade boys’ tournament is Saturday, Feb. 20. It is a double-elimination tournament with a limit of six teams. Games will be at BFR.
 
A fourth grade girls’ tournament is Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27-28. It will involve 10 teams and three games are guaranteed to each team. Games will be at BFR.
