Letter: Did you know there are rails under Main Street?

Note: This letter is in response to the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce's program on the Dixie Highway Centennial on Friday, Jan. 9.

Did you know the rails ran right down the center on Main St? I grew on 668 S Main in the 1920s, Watching for the trains was a big excitement. Played 'hide and seek' running with the freight car across the street to a new destination.Watched for the group of new cars being driven from Detroit to unknown. What wonderful memories!

Letter: Some additional thoughts about Old Man Bluffton

Nice story on old man Bluffton.So start a list/a section. Things to work on to improve divided by sections. In any town there are a lot of small things that can be done to make things better.

• Easy/inexpensive things to change

• More difficult things to change to improve

• Grand plans/strategies:  Long term goals

• Let residents have their input and recommendations.

Keep track of what they recommend and what is accomplished.  Keep chipping
away on the list.

Letter: American Legion hosts several Veterans Day services

The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 will be holding services at Richland Manor, the Mennonite Home in Bluffton and  Maple Crest on Veterans Day.  

Larry Core, Tom and Cheryl Craig will be demonstrating to all 4th graders how the American Flag should be folded and Mrs. Craig will tell what each fold of the flag means.

Fair Trade jewelry party Oct. 24 at public library

Dear Friends

Please support Fair Trade in Bluffton and encourage community members to attend planned programs to raise awareness.

This Friday, October 24th between 11:00am and 1:00pm the library will partner with Ten Thousand Villages to host a special Fair Trade Jewelery Party.

Letter: About those pumpkins on Main Street

You may soon notice that pumpkins aren’t just orange this year.  Before long, hand-painted pumpkins will be distributed throughout Bluffton, exhibiting a variety of colors not typically seen on this fixture of autumn.
