Bluffton spikers seeded 5th in sectional

Pirates face P-G in opening round on Oct. 15

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton volleyball team was seeded fifth at the 14-team Div. IV Bluffton super sectional drawing held Sunday.

The Lady Pirates (11-9) will host eighth-seeded Pandora-Gilboa in the first round Tuesday, October 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Bluffton beat P-G 3-1 back on August 22 in just their second match of the season.

The Pirate/P-G victor will face the victor between heavily-favored third seed Marion Local and winless 14th seed Upper Scioto Valley. That second round match will take place at New Knoxville Thursday, Oct. 17.

Bluffton visits local rival Allen East on Friday

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton football team was upset 21-9 by visiting Paulding in a Northwest Conference ground battle to spoil Homecoming Friday night at Harmon Field.

Their second consecutive loss dropped the Pirate record to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the NWC. The Panthers improved to 2-4 and 1-2 in league play as they ended a two-game losing skid.

Erin Hotmire tennis season ends 1 win short of district

BHS girls compete in sectional

LIMA - Seven Bluffton girls tennis players competed at the Div. II sectional tournament hosted by Elida this past Thursday at UNOH.

Forty singles players competed, with only the final four moving on to districts next week.

Pirate senior Erin Hotmire won her first match, a round of 32 battle, over Rachel Wilcox of Bath by a 6-0, 6-2 score. In the round of 16, Hotmire eliminated Defiance's Alexa Bickford easily in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

First Pirate boys' soccer loss since Aug. 24

Shawnee sneaks past BHS 2-1

BLUFFTON - Jacob Miller scored both goals to lead visiting Shawnee to a 2-1 win over the Bluffton boys soccer team Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates dropped to 11-2-1 with the non-league defeat, their first loss since Aug. 24 at Elida.

After a scoreless first half, Miller found the back of the net in the 45th minute to put the Indians on top, 1-0.

Pirate Jonathan Schriner tied it 1-1 with a goal in the 65th minute. But Miller untied it three minutes later with the eventual winning goal.

BHS senior Drew Wilson missed out on state qualification by three shots

Pirates 13th fo 18 teams in D3 golf district

BOWLING GREEN - The Bluffton boys golf team finished 13th out of 18 teams in the Div. III district tournament at Bowling Green's Stone Ridge Golf Club Thursday.

Kalida won the district team title with 328 strokes. Minster ended up second (333), followed by St. Joseph Central Catholic (339) and Seneca East (349).

Bluffton came in 13th with a total of 377 strokes, finishing five strokes ahead of league rival Allen East (382).

Pirate spikers nipped in fifth set by AE

HARROD - Visiting Bluffton lost a five-set heartbreaker at rival Allen East in a Northwest Conference volleyball thriller Thursday night.

Bluffton led 2-1 but lost the fourth set, then was nipped in a tight fifth game by just two points.

The 27-25, 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13 defeat dropped the Lady Pirate record to 11-9 overall, and they finished 4-4 in NWC play. AE improved to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in the NWC with the comeback victory.
