Pirate harriers 6th at County Invite

LIMA - The Bluffton boys cross country team finished sixth at the 10-team Allen County Invitational meet under unseasonably hot, dry conditions in Faurot Park Tuesday evening.

Shawnee won the team team title easily with 31 points. Elida was a distant second with 76 points, while the Pirates finished with 157.

Freshmen Wyatt Lovell and Sam Derstine turned in the top Bluffton performances. The duo ended up 22nd and 24th, respectively, in the 69-runner field.

Pirate spikers fall to Grove

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton lost to Columbus Grove over four tough sets in a Northwest Conference volleyball match Tuesday night.

The 23-25, 25-13, 25-12, 26-24 defeat dropped the Lady Pirate record to 11-8 overall and 4-3 in NWC play. Grove improved to 9-8 overall and 4-2 in the NWC with the comeback victory.

Sophomore Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirates with 10 kills and 13 digs. Junior Taylor Schwab amassed nine kills, two aces and a team-high 18 digs.

Pirate boys' soccer improve to 11-1-1 with third straight victory

Bluffton edges Knights

VAN BUREN - The visiting Bluffton boys soccer team jumped to an early lead and made it stand up for a 2-1 non-league win at Van Buren Tuesday evening.

The Pirates improved to 11-1-1 with their third straight victory.

Joshua Mehaffie scored just two minutes into the game to give Bluffton a 1-0 lead. Jonathan Schriner netted the other Pirate goal in the 30th minute to make it 2-0 at intermission.

Lady Pirate netters sweep Spartans

LIMA - The Bluffton girls tennis team went on the road and defeated Lima Senior convincingly 5-0 Tuesday evening.

The Lady Pirate netters improved to 10-8 without losing a set in the victory over the Spartans.

Junior Julia Smallcomb won 6-4, 6-3 at first singles.

Sophomore Ellison Pugsley was victorious at second singles by a 6-2, 6-4 score.

Junior Pearl Lewandowski won by forfeit at third singles.

Junior Olivia Barnes and senior ace Erin Hotmire teamed up at first doubles to win easily by a 6-0, 6-1 count.

Ottawa-Glandorf edges BHS

OTTAWA - The Bluffton girls tennis team went on the road Monday and lost a close match to Ottawa-Glandorf 3-2.

The Lady Pirate netters fell to 9-8 with the loss to the Lady Titans.

Senior Erin Hotmire registered a double bagel 6-0, 6-0 win at first singles.

Pirate junior Olivia Barnes also won in without dropping a game at second singles by a 6-0, 6-0 score.

Sophomores Libby Frazier and Ellie Nickel lost a close three-setter at second doubles by a 6-7 (0-7), 0-6, 6-3 score.

But Patrick Henry wins in 3

HAMLER - Visiting Bluffton was beaten by Patrick Henry in three sets in a non-conference volleyball match Monday night.

The 25-22, 25-20, 25-17 loss dropped the Lady Pirate record to 11-7 overall.

Junior standout Taylor Schwab compiled seven kills, 15 digs and one block to lead the Pirates. Sophomore Kylie Stackhouse contributed seven kills and one block.

Sophomore setter Skyler Scoles doled out 20 assists, made one block and dealt a pair of aces. Haelynn Bischoff came up with 10 digs.
