7-2 Bluffton spikers open NWC play with win

DELPHOS - The visiting Bluffton volleyball team served up a sweep over Delphos Jefferson in the Northwest Conference season opener Tuesday night. 

Bluffton improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with their fifth consecutive win. DJ fell to 4-1 and 0-1 in league play with the 25-9, 25-15, 25-16 defeat.

Athletic Kylie Stackhouse led the Pirate girls with 19 kills and one block. Versatile Taylor Schwab amassed 11 kills, 12 digs and five aces. 

Haelynn Bischoff also contributed four kills.

‘Why Choose BVHS for Women’s Health?’ virtual presentation Sept. 30

Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) will host “Why Choose BVHS for Women’s Health?” virtual presentation, a part of the 2020 virtual “Live and Learn” Facebook Live series.

Dr. Allison Westcott, a physician with Blanchard Valley Obstetrics & Gynecology and Sara Weihrauch, PA-C, physician assistant with Blanchard Valley Obstetrics & Gynecology, will co-host a livestream event. The topic will spotlight the services and care options provided by their experienced team. William Kose, MD, vice president of special projects, will serve as the event’s moderator.

North Main parking expands by 24 spots

Chamber will install directional signs in village for visitors

There’s a new municipal parking lot in Bluffton and this week it gets its stripes.

Village-owned property north of the fire station on North Main Street was paved in the past month. It will soon have 24 parking spaces, Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, told council members on Monday.

Of those spaces at least four will be reserved for fire department use.

The village purchased two properties north of the station several years ago anticipating either expansion of its fire station or for use as a parking lot.

Bluffton University receives high marks in advancing social mobility according to “U.S. News & World Report” rankings

Bluffton University has once again been named to the top tier of Midwest “regional colleges” in the “U.S. News & World Report” rankings released today.

The 2021 edition of the magazine’s “Best Colleges” guidebook ranks Bluffton 28 among 76 comparable institutions in 12 Midwest states. Now listed in the “U.S. News” rankings for 23 consecutive years, Bluffton has consistently ranked in the top tier of Midwest colleges. 

Another pathway opens

Girls' soccer: BHS stays unbeaten in NWC

Downs Delphos Jefferson 4-1 at Steinmetz Field

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton soundly defeated Delphos Jefferson 4-1 in Northwest Conference girls soccer action Monday night at Steinmetz Field.

The comeback win upped the Lady Pirate record to 4-2-1 overall and 3-0 in NWC play, good for a first-place tie. In their last five matches, the red-hot Pirate girls have posted four wins and one tie.

The Lady Wildcats fell to 1-5-1 and 0-2-1 in the NWC with the defeat.

Laykin Garmatter netted two goals to pace Bluffton to victory.
