April 2010

Nancy Badertscher would be the first to say that she lived a full life. What she wouldn't say was how painful that life was. She chose instead to live with a smile on her face and a lilt in her friendly greeting.

Diagnosed at a young age with a rare disease, Nancy wasn't expected to live much beyond her teens, let alone into her 40s. Once in an interview, she reflected on that time in her life. What I remember is that she and her family didn't let that stop them from hoping and holding on to a faith that only strengthened as Nancy continued to defie the odds.

Bluffton Family Recreation wants to encourage new members by offering a
different version of a Buy One Get One Free deal.

According to Carole Enneking, BFR director, "This new membership special does require some effort from the customer, but that is the point. Research shows that people start exercise programs with lofty goals but often drop out of the program within the first two weeks.

The BFR New Member Special will be available through May 31.

Nancy Badertscher

Nancy J. Badertscher, 44, of Bluffton, died at 9:42 p.m., April 18, 2010, at the Bluffton Hospital. She was born July 28, 1965, in Bluffton to Don and Harriet (Badertscher) Badertscher. Her mother survives.

Nancy was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She was a recipient of the Jefferson Award for her volunteerism at the Bluffton Elementary School and at the Mennonite Memorial Home. She was not only a resident of the Mennonite Memorial Home, but was a special friend to the entire Mennonite Memorial Home community. She was a 1983 graduate of Bluffton High School.

You've got to hand it to the Reinekes. When they're out, they're out in full force. In fact, there were three generations of the family at Saturday's Rhodes State PTA Club's Run for the Health of It 5K. Gma and Gpa Reineke (aka Sam and Janette) walked the route with their granddaughter, Joscelin (Elisha and Ben's daughter), while their daughter, Becky, daughter-in-law, Elisha, and granddaughter, Delaney (daughter of Elisha), ran the course.

Yeah, we know. It's not a vanity plate. Even so, we've searched for "BHS" plates for a long time, have seen several, but never spotted one in Bluffton. Until now. Too bad the Ohio license bureau wouldn't make BHS plates available exclusively to Bluffton residents. That would make life interesting.
