Icon viewers are invited to a Citizens National Bank Customer Appreciation Day Friday, Sept. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 pm, at the Bluffton office, 102 S. Main St.

At times like this, I chuckle. And no one hears me. That’s okay.

Standing in my back yard Saturday afternoon, minding my own business, the strains of “25 or 6 to 4,” wafted my way, played by the university pep band at a football game.

I bet myself not a player in that band could name the group who originally performed it, the musician who composed it, or, its meaning.

Hearing the tune, certainly made me pause. And chuckle. What is this world coming to?

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Beavers opened up the 2014 football season at home against the Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops. The visitors outscored the home team 13-0 in the third quarter en route to a 40-20 victory to start their season 1-0 as the Beavers stand 0-1.

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women’s soccer team traveled to Wilmington College to take on the Quakers on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 as they fell 3-0. The Beavers slipped to 0-3 on the season while Wilmington earned their first win, climbing to 1-3.

Bluffton High School football team lost to Van Buren 9-7 on Saturday afternoon. Attached  at the bottom of this story are games stats.

Nadin-Sarah Salkic, an attorney and Bluffton University alumna, will return to her alma mater Tuesday, Sept. 16, for an 11 a.m. address comparing European and U.S. constitutional treatment of minority groups.

Free and open to the public in Founders Hall, the presentation is Bluffton’s Constitution Day Forum. All educational institutions that receive federal funds are required to offer an instructional program each year on or near Sept. 17, the day the U.S. Constitution was signed in 1787.

Tickets are still available for the opening performance in the 2014-15 Bluffton University Artist Series, by sand artist Joe Castillo at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, in Yoder Recital Hall.
 
A finalist on “America’s Got Talent,” Castillo has developed a way of telling stories that uses sand art, a light table and music. His experience in advertising—where he spent 20 years—as well as in art led him to become a motivational performing artist. He is a graduate of Florida Bible College and Asbury Theological Seminary.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's soccer team welcomed Cincinnati Christian University for their 2014 home opener on Friday, Sept. 5. The Beavers took a 1-1 tie into the half but the visitors scored twice in the final 45 minutes for a 3-2 victory at the Sears Complex. The Beavers fell to 0-4, while Cincinnati Christian starts the season 1-0.
