Bluffton native Daniel D. Fultz, PhD., is a 2018 Alumni Circle of Excellence inductee at a ceremony May 5 at Rhodes State College, Lima.

Fultz graduated with an associate of technical studies degree from Lima Technical College in 1993. He is a Bluffton High School graduate, Bluffton University graduate and former faculty member.

Bluffton Family Recreation announced that both men's and women's showers will be temporarily closed during repairs, but the rest of the locker room is still open.

The showers will be open again on Monday morning.

A changing of the guard will take place at the 47th annual Bluffton Arts and Crafts Festival on Saturday, May 12.

Vendor manager emeritus Jerry Burkholder is showing the ropes to incoming manager Lauren Canaday and Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce CEO Paula Scott.

“Jerry’s been part of the event for it’s entire history,” explains Scott, “so we feel confident and excited—and that we won’t really appreciate how it all comes together until after the show!”

Dr. James Harder awarded honorary degree

More than 200 diplomas were awarded during Bluffton University’s 118th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 6, including an honorary degree to President James Harder, who also served as Commencement speaker.
 
“To the 2018 graduates, it looks like we’ll be celebrating together, doesn’t it,” joked Dr. Harder in his reflections to students. “Although, I have definitely taken more time to get here than you have.”
 

With an 8-2 sectional win over Spencerville

The Lady Pirate softball team is peaking at just the right time.

 Bluffton won their 10th straight game and exacted revenge from an earlier season loss in an 8-2 victory over Spencerville in the opening round of the OHSAA tournament.  

The May Bluffton school board meeting has a schedule change, according to Paula Parish, school district treasurer.

The meeting was originally set for Monday, May 21. The new meeting date is 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 14, in the Bluffton elementary media center.

Birchaven Village will host a tribute to the United States Organization's (USO) shows of the past from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday, May 19, at Birchaven Village, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay.

Veterans, spouses of veterans and a guest are invited to a night of hors doeuvres, drinks and entertainment. The entertainment includes The Flag City Rock and Soul Revue, a Marilyn Monroe impersonator and the Hancock County's Marine Corps color guard.

Pandora Missionary Church will host a concert by the musician Beacon Light, at 7 p.m., Sunday, June 3, according to Matt Steiner, pastor. The concert's focus is on youth.

The concert is free and open to the public. The church is located at 300 Rocket Ridge, Pandora.
