(SPENCERVILLE) - The Bluffton boys track team won the final meet event, the 4x400, by a strong 20 feet that would have given the Pirates back to back Northwest Conference championships Saturday.

However, several minutes later after the race ended, the Pirate relay team was disqualified for a contact infraction and Columbus Grove won the NWC title by a 111-107 count. While the boys team officially finished second, the girls team took fourth place. 

BFR holds June 7 to July 26 Thursday night league

Bluffton Family Recreation is taking team registrations for co-ed sand volleyball, according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

Games are played in the early evening on Thursday from June 7 to July 26. No games are scheduled July 5. All games are played at the Bluffton University sand volleyball court on Rosenberger Drive.

Team registration is $175. Contact BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton, or call 419-358-4150 or register online at www.bfronline.com.

Bluffton's next American Red Cross blood drive is from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, in Bluffton middle school, due to air conditioning work at the high school gym.

Donors may sign-up in the school office or call 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to redcrossblood.org sponsor code "bluffhsoh" to schedule a donor appointment.

Officers responded to an East College Avenue residence for a deceased person.

A Bluffton University official reported a criminal mischief complaint to police.

Officers arrested Ryan M. Matter, 22, Bluffton, on an outstanding warrant out of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

Avis A. Marshall, 89 died on May 13, 2018, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.  Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. 

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Arrangements have been entrusted with Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Carl J.C. Wolf died on May 11, 2018, at the age of 99.  Carl was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on Feb. 16, 1919 to Otto A. and Helen Hilbert Wolf. He is predeceased by his wife, Claralice, and by his sister, Arvola.

Carl graduated from Lawrence High School, Lawrence, Massachusetts, in 1936, Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, 1940, and Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey, in 1943. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Davis and Elkins College, West Virginia, in 1956.

He married Claralice Hanna in August 1943.
