Scott Shough is the new service manager of Bluffton Auto Repair Center, 302 N. Main St., Bluffton.

Shough has eight years experience as an auto mechanic with Stratton Auto Group and is a 2004 Bluffton High School graduate.

Bluffton Auto Repair handle all types of vehicle repair from oil changes, basic maintenance, engine repairs, heating and cooling systems, wheels and tires, brakes and advanced diagnostics.

Hours are Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Following executive session on Monday

Bluffton interim village administrator Jesse Blackburn is now the offical village administrator.

Following Monday's council meeting, the council entered executive session to discuss personnel.

After existing closed doors, a motion was made by Mitch Kingsley with a second by Phill Talavinia to hire Blackburn as village administrator at a salary of $65,000 per year.

Volunteers needed in several areas - it's all about village cultivation

Bluffton in Bloom, now in its second year, is expanding its scope of awareness in the community.  The committee seeks community volunteers to assist its efforts this year.

Bloom board members are Tom Schmidt, chair, Nancy Benroth, Denise Fett, Becky Ramey and Mark Simmons. Jesse Blackburn, village administrator, is the village liason to the board.

Bluffton in Bloom is affiliated with the national organization “America in Bloom.” 

Several additional committee meetings set

The Village of Bluffton’s next regular council meeting is rescheduled from Memorial Day, Monday, May 28, to Tuesday, May 29, according to Laura Ewing, village fiscal officer. 

Other public meetings scheduled include:
• joint Finance and Utility committees, Monday, May 21, noon
• Streets Committee, Wednesday, May 30, 5:30 p.m.
• Tree Commission, Tuesday, June 12, 7:30 p.m.
• America In Bloom, Wednesday, May 16, 2018, 6:30 p.m. 

All meetings are held at the town hall.
 

The swim season is almost upon us

As soon as school ends, the swimming season begins.

On Monday, Bluffton council will act on setting swimming pool prices and approving the 2018 staff. On May 15, the village will begin to fill the pool. Patriot Concrete has replaced approximately 2,800 square feet of concrete decking. The floor coating system for the interior and exterior areas is yet to be determined.

You never know who you will meet there

Several famous people, international ambassadors and persons representing various professions visited Bluffton one evening last week.

There was Clara Barton and Emily Dickinson. Esther and Ruth of Old Testament fame stopped by as did Catherine the Great and Socrates.  And, Paul Revere rode in.

Several representatives of nations south of the border with ambassadors included Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.

Profesions setting shop including an elementary principal, deputy sheriff, and dance teacher, electrician and turf management pro.

Planning for the 2018 Blaze of Lights is underway. The first order of business is the selection of a theme.

It's "The 12 Days of Christmas," according to Paula Scott, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce CEO.

Like previous Blaze of Lights, this year's event is the Saturday after Thanksgiving, making it Nov. 24.

Avis A. Marshall, 89, died May 13, 2018, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.  Avis was born May 23, 1928, in Lima to the late Clarence and Edith (Thomas) Hofferbert.  On Sept. 16, 1950 she married John H. Marshall II who preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 1997.

(PAULDING) - Bluffton’s softball team went on a terrific winning streak this season but the campaign came to an end at Paulding Friday evening.  The host Panthers were able to claw back from a 4-0 deficit to win the game 5-4. 

Goes into district action at 20-2

(LIMA) - With a position secured at next week’s District Meet, senior tennis player Justin Haggard went to task locking down a sectional crown.  

Haggard easily got by Van Wert’s Michael Etter by a sore of 6-0, 6-2 putting him into the finals.  There he dropped a hard fought match to Shawnee’s Jackson Schaaf 7-6 (3), 6-1.
