Darrell D. Howell, 65, died May 2, 2018, in Union Township, Hancock County, Ohio.  Darrell was born May 15, 1952, in Bluffton to the late Herbert and Edna (Cupples) Howell. 

Darrell graduated from Cory-Rawson High School where he was a member of the 1969 state champion football team. He was a farmer and mechanic at Gene Stevens in Findlay.  Darrell was a member of Mt. Cory United Methodist Church and the Northwest Ohio Antique Machinery Association. He was a former Union Township trustee and former member of the Mt. Cory Fire Department.

For the second time in three days, the Bluffton baseball team faced a state ranked team.  On Wednesday, sixth ranked Lincolnview invaded Kyle Luginbuhl Memorial Field and left 11-1 winners.  The Lancers improved to 16-3 on the season, Bluffton fell to 3-13.  The Pirates played LCC earlier this week who also garnered votes in the latest state ranking.

University stores seven copies of 1748 edition in Musselman Library

“Five tons of linen rags would have been needed to make the required 500,000 sheets of paper, which, if stacked, would be taller than the U.S. Capitol building,” said Phillips.

At Bluffton University’s Musselman Library, archivist Carrie Phillips stores seven copies of the 1748 edition of the Ephrata “Martyrs Mirror” in boxes specially designed to keep them preserved.

James Kusak going to University of Louisville

Bluffton University is searching for a new head coach for its men’s soccer program following the resignation of James Kusak. He has accepted an assistant coach position at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

“We will begin a search for a new coach in the coming weeks,” said Phill Talavinia, Bluffton’s athletics director. “I wish Coach Kusak all the best.”

Ohio Department of Transportation announces the following road project affecting Bluffton area drivers:

• State Route 103 between county Road 9 and township Road 65, between the villages of Jenera and Arlington, will close May 23 for approximately 30 days for a culvert replacement.

Traffic will be detoured onto U.S. 68, U.S. 30 and state Route 235 back to state Route 103. Work is being performed by Miller Contracting Group, Ottoville. (see map)

Walter Brothers Auctioneers, Findlay, will hold a public auction in Bluffton on Saturday, May 12.

Renee Elizabeth Reichenbach, formerly known as Richard Eugene Reichenbach, 76, formerly of Bluffton, died May 2, 2018 at her home in Columbus.  Renee was born April 2, 1942 in Bluffton, Ohio, to Ulysses and Virginia (Basinger) Reichenbach who preceded her in death. On Aug. 14, 1965, Richard married Ann M. Schafer and they were divorced. Ann survives in Ada, Ohio.

Don't toss out your old shoes. Bluffton Family Recreation want them. The BFR shoe drive now takes place year-around.

Earlier this spring BFR's shoe drive collected 5,550 pairs of shoes, earning BFR over $2,000.

The drive not only keep shoes out of landfills, it sends them to 24 non-profit agencies around the globe. There the shoes will be refurbished and used.

This was the fourth year for BFR’s shoe drive. The previous drive generated over $4,000 to BFR.
