Bluffton pair wins 2nd doubles crown / PHOTO provided

LIMA__The Bluffton High School girls tennis team finished a strong second at the seven-team Lima City Tournament on Saturday, August 8.

Wapakoneta captured the team championship with 30 points. The Redskins took first in four of the five bracket tournaments with undefeated records.

BOHS UPDATE__The August monthly meeting of the Bluffton Ohio Historical Society will be at the 1899 Depot (Bluffton Sportsmen's Club) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12.

On the agenda: reviewing the recent Bluffton History Day, the Ohio Open Doors event in September, and reports from committees, including the Capital Campaign and the October Wake the Dead motorcycle visit for the Dillinger bank robbery reenactment with Fred Steiner.

All are encouraged to "bring a friend and an artifact to share."

MEDIA RELEASE__The next Mobile Health Clinic will be held on Thu., Aug. 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All services are provided by individuals with the Ohio Northern University Healthwise program. 

This clinic includes free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol (please fast for 12 hours to participate in cholesterol or blood sugar screening).

Participants may speak with ONU Healthwise students and staff about their results or concerns, and even receive referrals to area doctors.

This is a preview of bands and musicians Tommy Jenkins, Cat Dailey, and the Szabo Trio, which are scheduled to play during Bluffton's Play Music on the Porch Day (a.k.a. PorchFest) on August 29. The event is part of a worldwide movement featuring live music performances in neighborhood settings.

This is the third year for the event locally, with 30 bands signed up to perform in and around Bluffton. A performance map and schedule is attached above (CLICK to enlarge).

FROM BSC HAPPENINGS_On Monday, August 17, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Hailey Ballinger of Hailey's Massage and Wellness will be offering chair massages at the Senior Center. A 15-minute massage will be $15. She is the daughter of Shawn and Marlena Ballinger and will be coming once a month to offer her services. Please sign up in the office at the Senior Center for an appointment.

FROM BSC HAPPENINGS_On Monday, August 17, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., the Bluffton Senior Center will host a spa day. Sunrise of Findlay will sponsor the day, where participants can enjoy having their fingernails done, a light snack, and fun time with friends. The activities are free, but reservations are required.

Bluffton residents have a lot ot say about traffic safety priorities. The Icon's July 2026 poll asked readers to select up to three areas of interest or to write in their own topic.

The top three opportunities for improvement were 1) School pick-up and drop-off zones, 2) Awareness of stop signs at County Line and Jefferson St. and 3) Slow down e-scooters and e-bikes.

Over 12 years, the Bluffton American Legion Post has raised more than $80,000 to support local nonprofit organizations. This past week, the veterans' group held a ceremony to present 2026 funds to 12 recipients with the following representatives:
