PORT CLINTON – Three tennis players from Bluffton High School competed in the Div. II boys district tournament indoors at the Tennis One complex in Sandusky on Wednesday, May 21.

Slated to be held outdoors at Port Clinton, the tournament was moved inside due to inclement weather.

Pirate senior Branson Hilty lost his first round match to Bryan senior Landen Bassett 6-2, 6-1 to be eliminated from the tournament.

MAY 21 MEDIA RELEASE__On May 16, 2025, at approximately 10:02 p.m., Allen County Sheriff’s Office deputies were  dispatched to a residence in the 5900 block of North Napoleon Road in reference to a shooting.

Deputies located the victim, Brandon Jones, (37) of Lima, at the Pilot Travel Center in  Beaverdam. Mr. Jones was transported to a local hospital by Beaverdam EMS with non-life threatening injuries.

Dear Bluffton Community, 

We regret to inform you that the scheduled opening of the Bluffton Community Pool will be delayed.  The delay is due to a variety of conditions, that include limitations presented by spring weather, while performing over $120,000 of renovations to the pool bottom and piping infrastructure that were started over 5 weeks ago.  

Family fun bike rides are scheduled for the last Saturday of each month through October. Rides start at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's UCC, 223 W College Ave. Organizers note, "Bring your family, your bikes, and your excitement for a scenic and joyful ride through Bluffton. All ages and skill levels are welcome." The first ride is Saturday, May 31.

The Bluffton Board of Education held a regular meeting on May 19 at 5:00 p.m. The meeting agenda is available online HERE. Actions included approval of a Leo Club for students. The board also heard reports from the elementary school, buildings and grounds, and from the board's Apollo representative.

TREASURER’S TRANSACTIONS
Treasurer Paula Parish has completed the five-year forecast required by the State of Ohio. Parrish indicated that the forecast was created without the State Budget being set. (The Icon has requested a digital copy and will report on its findings.)

Bluffton University’s spring celebration of Anabaptism at 500 will be concluded on Friday, June 20 with “One Hundred Years of Mennonite Women through Story and Song.” This event will be held at First Mennonite Church, Bluffton, Ohio from 7-8:30 p.m., conducted by Wendy Chappel-Dick, MBA ’08.
