Bluffton and St Marys each scored a goal in both halves as the teams endured a thrilling finish to draw 2-2 as the 2018 season opened Saturday night.  

Bluffton surged ahead with six minutes to go but the visitors responded just over a minute later to even the score.

At Monday's Bluffton school board meeting

Bluffton school board puts some actions into place for the 2018-19 school year at its Monday meeting.

Among agenda items include:
• Contracts, assignments and resignations – Those include several contracts for supplemental coaching, substitute teacher, substitute educational aides, substitute secretary and substitute cafeteria workers.

• One student teaching assignment – Lauren Roberts of University of Dayton with Elizabeth Smith

Over $8,500 handed out on Aug. 13

The Bluffton American Legion post 382 donated over $8,500 split among 18 area non-profit organizations. The awards ceremony was Aug. 13.

Ohio American Legion Department Commander Robert E. Schmitt attended the ceremony.

Chairmen Fred Arnold and Sam Reineke said that they would like to thank all the sponsors and golfers for their generous donations for the legion's 9th annual charitable golf scramble. Without these folks we would not be able to support the 18 organizations.

Died Aug. 15 after three-year battle with cancer

Stephen Anthony Cervi (Bluffton resident from 1988-2001) died on Aug. 15, 2018, after a three-year battle with cancer.

He is survived by his wife Linda of Kelseyville, California, son Lucas Cervi (Kelly) of St. Paul, Minnesota, daughter Sarah Stockton (Jonathan) of Aurora, Colorado, sister, Laura Cervi of Mesa, Arizona, brother Bruce Cervi (Karen) of Studio City, California, and four grandchildren.

The Inn at ONU presents “Fearless ShenANYgans,” at 7:30 p.m., Wedneday, Aug. 29, in its series of summer programs.

The program is an evening of comedy improv in The Inn’s garden courtyard.

Reservations are required and seating is limited. Tickets are $25 and includes an appetizer and dessert buffet, tax, gratuity. Included in the buffet is sweet chili barbecue meatballs, spring rolls, bacon and cheese dip with house-made kettle chips, dessert kabobs and other items.
