'Summer Mud' available at Bluffton University
Adults, along with college and high school students, who are interested in exploring the medium of ceramics may do so in "Summer Mud," a class being offered in June at Bluffton University.
Gregg Luginbuhl, professor and chair of art at Bluffton, will teach the class, which will meet from 6:30-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday for three weeks beginning Monday, June 6. The class will meet in the Sauder Visual Arts Center's ceramics studio, where students will also be able to work during daytime and weekend hours.
Class size will be limited to 20 students, who will learn techniques of handbuilding, wheel throwing and glazing ceramics, and produce useful stoneware items and ceramic sculpture. No previous experience with clay is necessary; instruction will be provided for beginners.
The fee, which includes materials and firing costs, is $235, which must be paid by the start of the first class session. Students will also need to purchase an inexpensive set of basic ceramic tools. To guarantee enrollment, prospective students should send a $50 nonrefundable deposit, or the full $235 payment, to Luginbuhl at 117 S. Spring St., Bluffton, Ohio 45817. Checks should be payable to Luginbuhl Ceramics.
He should be notified if students are interested in earning college course credit or continuing education units, available by separate enrollment through the university.
For more information, contact Luginbuhl at 419-302-8784.
