Icon's Super Bowl thoughts: Pats or G-men?

By Mitchell Gatzke, Bluffton University student

The Super Bowl this Sunday is sure to be nothing less than spectacular, as it is every year. The question everyone seems to have is who is going to ultimately win the championship?

In light of the recent roll the New York Giants are on, most would say they seem to be destined to win the Lombardi trophy, following the pattern the Green Bay Packers set last season.

However, the Giants lack something that their opponent, the New England Patriots, have. That something is Tom Brady, or in other words, the best quarterback of this era and possibly one of the best of all time.

Yes, the Giants do have a Pro Bowl quarterback of their own in Eli Manning, but you would be hard pressed to find any expert on the subject who could honestly say they believe Manning is as good as Brady.

It is often said that it takes more than one player to win a championship. However, Brady has already proved that theory incorrect multiple times. He has, in fact, led his team to a championship win three times and came up just a game short yet another time. That one loss came at the hands of Manning and the Giants five years ago, thickening this plot even more.

Due to this, the Patriots will undoubtedly be looking to get revenge on the team that cost them their perfect 19-0 season in 2007.

Manning is looking to surpass his brother Peyton in Super Bowl ring count and finally take a step out from the large shadow he casts. Meanwhile, Brady looks to collect his fourth ring which would, without a doubt, put his name up amongst the greats at the quarterback position.

No matter the outcome, impartial fans should be pleased with watching a game that features not only, the two best teams in the National Football League, but also two of the best quarterbacks in Manning and Brady.

Tune into the biggest game of them all on Sunday and watch what is sure to be a great game.
