Apollo collects for hurricane relief
Apollo Career Center Student Council is partnering with Stoops National Lease to bring Hurricane Relief Supplies to NYC New York City.
“We look for this to be a community-wide effort – student council members will be contacting area businesses asking for donations. Area organizations and individuals will be able to drop off items here at Apollo near the CET building. CET students will be helping to organize and load the supplies,” said Melissa Roll.
Steve Orr, a retired firefighter from New York City, will be meeting the truck at a designated staging area and distributing the supplies to those who need them most. He has also indicated that he will try to get us a police escort into town, as driving a into the affected area will be a challenge.
The details of getting items out and into the hands of those who need them is mostly organized and ready. Now the community and Apollo Career Center must begin the collection and are asking for help. The following are critical supplies needed:
• brooms, buckets, shovels
• all cleaning supplies
• bleach, rubber gloves
• notebooks, backpacks
• socks
• hats
• gloves
• blankets
• industrial garbage bags
• hand warmers
• baby formula/diapers/wipes
• food – non-perishable snack foods; example granola bars, crackers, etc. (something to eat while working)
• water/sports drinks
• electric heaters/generators
• toiletries – toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, toilet paper, razors, etc.
• paper towels
• batteries – especially ‘D’ batteries
