Evacuation center to open Sunday in Findlay
With flooding expected in the Findlay area, the American Red Cross of Hancock, Seneca and Wyandot Counties will be opening an Evacuation Center on Sunday morning.
The Evacuation Center will open at 11 a.m. Glenwood Middle School, 1715 N. Main St. in Findlay. People coming to the Evacuation Center should park behind the school and use the rear entrance to the building. Food will be available at the center. Red Cross disaster responders will evaluate the flood situation on Sunday evening and consult with Findlay City officials to decide if an overnight shelter will be needed.
“With the forecast calling for more rain, and an uncertainty on how high the river level will rise, we want to be proactive in providing help to families that may be forced from their homes by flooding” says Red Cross Executive Director Todd James.
“We encourage everyone who may be threatened by flood waters to take steps now to prepare to evacuate their homes if necessary. Families may want to call family or friends to see if they can stay with them, but for anyone who needs a safe place to stay, we will be here to help”.
James says anyone needing assistance can call the Red Cross at (419) 422-9322 or call the United Way information and referral line at 2-1-1- or 800-650-HELP (4357).
All Red Cross disaster relief is provided free of charge, thanks to the generosity of the American people. If you’d like to make a donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, visit www.redcross.org/hancock or call (419) 422-9322.
