At 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, the Bluffton police department issued the following statement:
"Police are recommending residents in low areas move vehicles to higher ground. Riley Creek is at its limits now.
Public utilities are preparing to close roadways normally impacted by high water. Motorists should use caution as they drive around the community. Remember it's safer to turn around and not drown.
"Emergency services will be monitoring the conditions for any potential public impact.
Instructions:
Take necessary protective action. Night driving will limit visibilty and ability to judge water across roadways."
