Dr. Cherie Hocanson and Jordan Hamilton, assistant professors of education at Bluffton University, will present the Colloquium, “BUILD (Bluffton University Improving Literacy Development) and the Science of Reading: An Overview of the Five Components of Effective Literacy,” at 4 p.m. on Friday, April 5 in Centennial Hall’s Stutzman Lecture Hall.
The education faculty will discuss training education prep candidates on the five components of effective reading. These components are phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. They will provide research and data on the science of readings and its impact.
Because of the grant, the education department and The Lion and Lamb Peace Arts Center were able to host a community literacy event called “Dive Into Reading.”
This event is free and open to the public.
