Dr. Derek Thomas has joined Hematology and Oncology Associates, 15900 Medical Drive South, Findlay. He is part of the care team at The Armes Family Cancer Care Center.

Dr. Thomas earned his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton. He completed his internal medicine residency at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana and completed fellowship training in hematology and medical oncology at Indiana University Simon Cancer Center.

Two Bluffton High School graduates are on the spring dean's list at Manchester University.

They are Katie Breidenbach and Luke Headings.

A total of 297 students engaged in undergraduate study at Manchester University are on the spring 2017 Dean’s List. The students achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher while enrolled in at least 12 credit hours of classes this spring.

Mention “Bluffton’s nursery” and the Bluffton Hospital comes to mind.

Another Bluffton nursery exists and it’s very special because it’s for monarch butterflies.This special nursery is at Maple Crest Senior Living Village.

Joanne Niswander is the nurse practitioner. This week the nursery is full of activities. Here’s the story behind the nursery, according to Joanne:

“Our first venture into raising monarch butterflies began in the fall of 2007, when then-MMH administrator, Lynn Thompson, brought a few monarch caterpillars to Maple Crest.

The following births were reported in July at Bluffton Hospital.

Elders of Maple Crest Senior Living Village shared their hobbies on July 27. Jamie Nygaard was there and shares photos of the show. At least 17 elders displayed hobbies ranging from carved art to toy farm equipment. ose included:

GoFundMe drive reaches goal for purchase of new family van to assist Owen

Greg’s Pharmacy is throwing a party for Bluffton’s small-town hero Owen Weaver and you are invited.

The event is from noon to 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 3, in the village parking lot behind Greg’s. The Weaver family will attend from noon to 1:30 p.m.

This summer marked the success of a GoFundMe drive that generated enough money to purchase a new van for the Weaver family.

It allows Owen to more easily go to doctor appointments at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, and to local activities.
