Sam Diller was recognized last week by the R. L. and Etta L. Triplett Memorial Foundation board.

Diller was a charter member of the foundation, having served along with Eugene Benroth, Harold Balmer and Jean and Morris Triplett, beginning in 1985 until his retirement from the board last year.

Not only did Diller give 29 years of service the foundation, but he provided office space and secretarial service at no cost, as well as serving for many years as the foundation treasurer.

Rachel Woodruff, daughter of David and Margie Woodruff, Bluffton, was awarded the Newcomb Scholar award at Ohio State University’s College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences recognition program in April.

The award recognizes five students with the highest academic ranking in each grade level within the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the School of Environment and Natural Resources and the Agricultural Technical Institute.

Remember field day?

This year's, on May 11, was like all the others. In the Icon's mind, Danielle Cross, Bluffton third grader, won the jump rope competition (even though there wasn't a competition).

Watch as she jumps rope 100 times. She could have continued, but stopped at the magic number.

Deborah Bish from Ada, shown with the Bluffton Community Market manager, Mike Love, was the Shopping Spree winner at the Market on May 7.

The Bluffton Lions Club sponsored the shopping spree as a way to gain proceeds for their scholarship program.  Winnings from this spree and other projects conducted by the Lions Club make it able to again give six scholarships for seniors in the area schools of Bluffton, Pandora-Gilboa and Cory-Rawson.

These scholarship winners will be announced at the school’s annual awards session this week.
