AEP expects power to be off from 5 to 10 minutes

Attention AEP customers: Expect a 5- to 10-minute power outage tonight at approximately 11 p.m.

The Village of Bluffton was notifed of the anticipated outage shortly after noon today.

Richard D. Doughtery of AEP, sent the village the following message:

"I wanted to let you know that an unexpected urgent situation has been discovered with the transmission line serving the Bluffton substation. 

"A  5- to 10-minute outage will take place close to 11 p.m. tonight, (Friday, Oct. 19).

Prior to 1987 it was a farmer’s field. Then DTR arrived.

Larry Core, retired Bluffton village administrator, remembers it this way: “It was biggest thing that will ever happen in my life.”

“It” was the Village of Bluffton’s success in attracting what was DTR, and is today SumiRiko Ohio, manufacturer of vehicle engine mounts, which employees approximately 770 associates working three shifts.

Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce invites residents to lend a hand on Saturday, Nov. 10, for this year's Ream display set-up on the Bluffton Presbyterian Church lawn, according to Paula Scott, CEO.

"Helping with Blaze of Lights preparations is like being in the kitchen before a great family get-together. You become part of the tradition and you realize how much love, expertise, and effort goes into the celebration. If you love the Blaze, I hope you'll join us," said Scott.

Transition Bluffton and University Sustainability Club invites community participation

Transition Bluffton and the Bluffton University Sustainability Club invite all Bluffton and surrounding residents to join in a nationwide event, “Unleashing the Collective Genius: Celebrating 10 years of Transition in the US.”  The Bluffton event will be held on Saturday, Oc. 27, in the Kreider Room of Marbeck Center, Bluffton University.

The group will celebrate with each other here in northwest Ohio and joining those from around the country in several recorded and live events.  Participants should feel free to join any or all of the festivities:
