BLUFFTON__ The Bluffton High School girls softball team defeated local rival Allen East 12-6 in the Northwest Conference opener on a chilly Thursday evening, April 10.

The Pirate girls scored seven runs in a big second inning to seize control, and never trailed thereafter.

The Mustangs led 1-0 after scoring in the top of the second. Bluffton tacked on four insurance runs in the home fifth to build a 12-3 cushion. AE pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh to cut the final margin to six.

BLUFFTON__ The Bluffton High School boys tennis team defeated visiting Van Wert 4-1 in their belated home opener Thursday evening, April 10.

The Pirate record improved to 3-1 with the win. The Cougars fell to 0-1 after the loss.

Bluffton senior Branson Hilty won a tough three-set battle at first singles by a 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 count.

Senior Jack Brauen was edged in a three-setter at second singles. Brauen won the first set 7-6 but then fell 6-3, 6-2 in the final two sets.

ELIDA -- The visiting Bluffton High School girls softball team lost at non-league foe Elida 15-0 on a chilly Monday, April 7.

Bulldog pitcher Lily Sifrit pitched a five-inning perfect game and also slugged a home run, tripled and hit a single. 

Sifrit struck out 11 and walked none to earn the mercy rule victory. At the plate, she drove in two runs and scored three.

Abby Daugherty and Kayla Hunter each also homered as Elida banged out 15 hits. 

Elida improved to 3-5 with the lopsided win, while the Pirates are 0-2.

BLUFFTON – The Bluffton High School baseball team lost 11-2 to visiting Parkway in a non-league game Friday evening, April 4. 

Bluffton fell to 2-2 overall with the defeat. The Panthers improved to 2-1 with the win.

Sophomore outfielder Blayne Hill led the Pirate offense with two singles, a run scored and a double. Senior Luke Jebsen contributed two singles. Junior Robby Taylor added a single and scored a run. Jake Weaver had one RBI.

Hill and Taylor each stole a base.

SHAWNEE – The visiting Bluffton High School boys tennis team edged WBL foe Shawnee 3-2 in a close match featuring three tiebreakers Thursday evening.

The Pirates improved their record to 2-1 with the win.

Bluffton senior Branson Hilty rallied to win his first singles match in a third set tiebreaker 1-6, 6-3, 10-4.

Junior Nick Lovett fell at second singles 6-4, 6-1.

Senior Jack Brauen lost a tough three-set battle at third singles 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.
