Landen Luginbihl finished a strong third in the 220-pound. bracket

LIMA - The Bluffton wrestling team finished a strong 12th out of 41 teams at the Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Lima Central Catholic Friday and Saturday.

The Pirates scored 76 points to finish just a point behind Woodmore in 12th place. Waynedale won the meet with 246.5 points, followed closely by Allen East in second at 229.5.

Bluffton and Ada Icon viewers are invited to enter the Icon Super Bowl Contest.

The contest will be posted on both Icons on Monday morning. The deadline to enter is Super Bowl Sunday.

The contest will have several questions and tie-breaking questions including:

•Who will win?
•Who will score first?
•Who will lead at halftime?
•How many points will the winning team win by?
•Who will be the Super Bowl MVP?

The grand prize is six passes to the Shannon Theatre in Bluffton.

Bluffton Soccer Club online registration now open

The Bluffton Soccer Club is taking registrations for the 2020 spring soccer season, according to Dan Lee.

Registration is online at www.blufftonsoccer.com.  Registrations will be open until Saturday, Feb 1. After Feb 1 there will be a $25 late fee.

Bluffton travels to Spencerville on Thursday

PANDORA - Visiting Bluffton whipped local rival Pandora-Gilboa 57-34 in non-conference girls basketball play Saturday afternoon.

Bluffton raced to a 23-8 margin after one period as senior post Libby Schaadt scored 12 points. The Lady Pirates led 36-13 at halftime and cruised to the blowout victory. 

The lopsided win improved the Pirate girls record to 11-3 overall. Struggling P-G dropped to 1-12 with the defeat.

MIDDLE POINT - Visiting Bluffton was ambushed by a big Lincolnview second half in a 61-45 Lancer upset in Northwest Conference boys basketball play Friday evening.

The Pirates fell to 11-2 overall and 3-1 in the NWC after having their four-game win streak snapped. Meanwhile, the Lancers improved to 6-6 and 2-1 in the NWC with the win.

Bluffton held the lead twice, initially at 25-24 in the second quarter and again at 30-28 in the third period. But the Lancers outscored the Pirates 35-20 in the second half to win going away.

Bluffton travels to P-G for non-league Saturday game

MIDDLE POINT - Host Bluffton whipped winless Lincolnview 55-38 in Northwest Conference girls basketball action Thursday night.

Bluffton led 13-9 after one period and 25-16 at halftime as senior post Libby Schaadt scored 16 of her game-high 22 points. 

The Lady Pirates outscored the Lancer girls 30-20 after intermission to win going away.

The win upped the Pirate girls record to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in NWC play. Meanwhile, Lincolnview fell to 0-14 and 0-4 in the NWC with the loss.
