Long touchdowns were the name of the game Friday night. 

Unfortunately for the Bluffton squad, the Columbus Grove Bulldogs had a few more explosive plays. Bluffton closed out their 2016 campaign with a 46-19 loss at the hands of Columbus Grove.

The Bluffton Lady Pirates girls' soccer team played their last game of 2016 last Wednesday night against the Riverdale Falcons at Findlay High School in the District III semifinal match.

Riverdale took the lead in the first half with two goals, making it 2-0 at the start. 

Bluffton kept them from scoring again and at 14 minutes to go, a foul in the box gave Bluffton a penalty kick. Senior Sarah Theisen landed it beautifully making the score 2-1. But Riverdale came back strong scoring two more for a final score of 4-1.

Third time for BHS boys to advance to regional play

How about those Pirates!

After defeating Temple Christian 3-1 on Thursday, the Bluffton High School boys' soccer team advanced to the Division III regionals. This marks only the third time that a Pirate boys' team has advance this far.

Bluffton did it in 2009 and in 1999. Both teams were coached by Dave Fett.

Bluffton's Sweet Sixteen play starts at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5, versus Mansfield Christian High School. The game will be played at Tiffin Columbian High School.

Bluffton outside Pioneers 14 to 2

Kalida hosted Bluffton Pirates and Temple Christian Pioneers for the District final on Saturday. Bluffton prevailed 3-1.
 
Scoring got started at 2 minutes when Pirate Luke Young crossed a ball to Eli Bourassa who buried it. The balance of the half saw a number of Bluffton build-ups, with Temple Christian rejections.
 
In the second half at minute 51 Temple Christian scored on a well place kick.
 

Bluffton High School girls' soccer season came to an end in the district semi-final round on Wednesday as the Pirates lost to Riverdale 4-1.

Sarah Theisen scored the lone goal for Bluffton.

Riverdale led 2-1 with 14 minutes to play. The Falcons punched in two back to back goals at 8 minutes and 6 minutes to pull ahead.

Bluffton, the NWC champs, ended season 13-5-1.
