A memorial service and visitation for Michael Amstutz, who died March 11, 2018, is planned for Saturday, March 31, at the Beaverdam Church of Christ.

Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m.  A short service takes place at 2 p.m. In place of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beaverdam Church of Christ.

Mike was born Dec. 7, 1950, in Bluffton to the late William and JuLee (Garmatter) Amstutz who preceded him in death.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Bluffton University baseball team would hit the road to face off against the Wittenberg University Tigers on a breezy Sunday, March 25. The Beavers used some late-game heroics to secure the daily sweep, improving to 11-6 on the season.

The Easter Bunny showed up at Mennonite Memorial Home on Saturday and dropped off several hundred eggs for youngsters to pick up. Here's one view of the morning by Jamie Nygaard. Watch the Icon for lots more egg hunt photos on Monday.

Last of the holiday lights removed in mid-March

Joe Sehlhorst, Bluffton council member and cultural affairs committe representative, announced that Christmas in Bluffton is officially over.

Here's portion of an e-mail message from Sehlhorst concerning the removal of the LED lights on the large evergreen tree in the Bluffton Presbyterian Church lawn in mid-March.

"Special thanks goes out to all that helped with the removal of the LED lights on the big Evergreen this past Saturday. Jeff Stratton and Dan Snyder organized finding manpower to get this task done.

First three months of 2018 have 14 building permits in the village

A building permit filed with the village by Grob Industries shows that a $10 million new building is going up at Grob this spring.

That permit was the largest of 14 building permits filed in the first three months of 2018.

So far this year,  $11,313,309 in new construction is underway in the village. Of that figure, approximately $1 million is in residential construction.

The building permit list is part of the Monday Bluffton council packet. The packet is attached at the bottom of this story and the list of building permits is also attached.

Prepare to dance along in your seat during Bluffton University’s Gospel Choir and Jazz Ensemble concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 7, in Yoder Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public; a free-will offering will be taken during intermission for music scholarships.

Under the direction of Dr. Crystal Sellers-Battle, the Gospel Choir’s program will remember the life of composer Edwin Hawkins, who passed away in January, by singing his most famous song “Oh Happy Day.” A rhythm section led by Wesley Sellers of Columbus will accompany the group.
