The Bluffton Community Assistance Program, operating the food pantry, received a donation of two mini-shopping carts from Bluffton's Community Market. The carts will be used in the pantry, making shopping much easier for food pantry clients, according to Ed Yeager, president of the assistance program. The food pantry is located in the St. John's United Church of Christ.

Event is April 5 at the school in Jenera

Trinity Lutheran School, Jenera, will hold an open house and registration night for the 2018-19 school year from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 5, for prospective, new, and current families.

Teachers  will be  in their classrooms to meet with families and answer questions.  The office will be open to drop off registration materials or sign-up for the 2018-2019 school year. Complimentary pizza, cookies, and snacks will be served in the school gym.

Pre-school is held on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for children who will be 4 years of age by Aug. 1, 2018. 

For assistant manager and lifeguards

The Village of Bluffton seeks qualified candidates for assistant manager and lifeguards for the municipal swimming pool for this summer.

Qualified candidates for lifeguards must have or be in the process of obtaining CPR and lifeguard certifications. 

Applications are available at the town hall, 154 N. Main St., Monday through Friday from  8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Completed applications are due at the town hall by 5 p.m. Friday, April 20.  The Village of Bluffton is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Five swimmers from the Bluffton area qualified for the Great Lakes YMCA Zones Swimming Championship at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio March 16-18.

Landon Armstrong and Riley Verb swim for the Putnam County YMCA swim team under assistant coach, Bob Verb of Bluffton.

Jackson Bowlus, Allison Diller and Xavier Diller swim for the Lima YMCA swim team coached by April Dorman of Bluffton. In the summer, they all swim for the Bluffton Sardines.

Programs by Center for Conscience and War

British Actor and playwright Michael Mears along with Maria Santelli and Jake Short, executive director and administrative and outreach coordinator, respectively for the Center for Conscience and War, will give two presentations on April 3 on the campus of Bluffton University.

At 11 a.m. in Yoder Recital Hall, Mears, Santelli and Short, a 2010 Bluffton graduate, will present “100 Years of Conscientious Objection to War: Conscience, Dissent, Resistance and Civil Liberties from World War I through Today.”

Monday, April 9, is the deadline to register to vote or change address for the May 8 election. The Allen County board of elections, located at 204 N. Main St., Lima, is open 8:30-4 Monday through Friday.
