Members of the Bluffton University women’s soccer team were able to bond off the field during Party on the Lawn. Students enjoyed a photo booth, ate snow cones and played games including corn hole and giant Jenga. This event was part of the 60 in 6 plan coordinated by the Office of Student Involvement. The initiative seeks to provide at least 60 campus events in the first six weeks of the academic year.

Meet some of Bluffton's newest residents

First-year students at Bluffton moved into campus on Friday, Aug. 25 and began classes on Monday, Aug. 28. Here are some pictures from Welcome Week.

Chanhee Hwang and Irena Xhari, two of Bluffton University’s international students, take part in Welcome Week traditions, the Bren-Dell slip-n-slide. The slide runs down the hill next to Bren-Dell Residence Hall and is a way for both new and returning students to meet each other and celebrate before the academic year begins.

If you've ever wondered what the layout of Bluffton was like in 1880, here's the answer. In two different pieces are portions of a Bluffton plat map from that year.

You'll notice several interesting things:
• College Avenue is called Blanchard Avenue
• Lawn Avenue is called Mill Street
• There's no bridge over Riley Creek at Jefferson Street

There's lots more and we'll let you discover it by examining the map.

Bluffton police responded to 486 calls for service during August, according to Tyler Hochstetler, police sergeant. The August report follows:

August 1

  • A Hillville Road resident reported his juvenile daughter took his vehicle from the parking lot of a Garau Street business. The juvenile was taken to the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center on Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle charges. The case is pending in Allen County Juvenile Court.
