BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University woman’s basketball team took on Rose-Hulman in a crucial battle for the top spot in the HCAC. It was four quarters of hard fought basketball by both teams but the visiting Engineers would come out with the 49-47 victory. The loss dropped the Beavers to 15-4 on the season and 9-3 in the Heartland Conference. Rose-Hulman improved to 16-3 overall and 11-1 in conference play.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University men hosted Rose-Hulman on Saturday, Jan. 28, and fell by a score of 78-62. Rose-Hulman took the lead for good late in the opening stanza and never looked back as they rolled to a 78-62 victory. The victorious Engineers improved to 7-5 in the HCAC (9-10 overall), while Bluffton fell to 3-8 in the HCAC (10-8 overall).

Lawrence Matthews told the Bluffton Lions Club about his work with Mennonite Disaster Service in Detroit, during the club’s Jan. 17 meeting.

Two Bluffton community meals are set for February. They are at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, and Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.

Both meals are free and open to the public. Persons attending may provide a canned donation to the Bluffton food pantry if they wish.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church will host the Feb. 2 meal. SHANNON Service Club will host the Feb. 16 meet.

Several programs of interest to gardeners are planned this spring by the Allen County Master Gardeners.

March 7-April 25 – Master Gardener Volunteer Training for: Allen, Hardin, and Hancock  at the OSU - Lima Campus.  Classes are Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Contact the Extension Office www.allen.osu.edu for more details. The deadline to register is Feb. 20. 

Traci Heinz, Bluffton, was named to the dean’s list for the Bluffton University Cohort-based Organizational Management Program (BCOMP) for the fall term.

Students with a GPA of 3.6 or higher are eligible for the dean’s list.

BCOMP is an accelerated degree-completion program that creates a dynamic, learning community of adults. Students who complete the program demonstrate commitment to personal development and professional advancement within the area of organizational management.
