Innovative cello concert Feb. 17 in Town Hall Concert Series
Robert Clemens, Toledo Symphony cellist, will perform at 7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 17, in the Town Hall Concert Series. Food serving takes place at 6:30 p.m., according to Wendy Chappell-Dick of the Village Cultural Affairs Committee, concert sponsors.
Robert Clemens Town Hall Concert is being titled "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue."
The first half of his concert will be “something old,” and totally acoustic in nature: Bach’s unaccompanied First suite, G Major.
In the second half of the evening he will experiment with “something new,” an amplification of the cello's voice(s) where a track is recorded live and then 'cloned' with an electronic stompbox, allowing him to layer voices and creating a tapestry of sound made by one player.
Clemens explains that the “something borrowed” is his rendition of Roberta Flack's/ Lauren Hill's/Fugees version of "Killing Me Softly,” a beautiful piece of pop musicianship.
The “blue” will be Joni Mitchell's version of Charles Mingus' "The Dry Cleaner from Des Moines," based upon a Blues chord progression.
The Town Hall Concert Series is open to all and by donation only.
