Why Icon Facebook comments are moderated
By Paula Pyzik Scott
Ada Icon and Bluffton Icon owner-editor
Every now and then, I like to remind Icon readers why I moderate comments on our Facebook pages. My goal is to ensure that the information we share on Facebook is accurate and aligned with our news website focus.
As the moderator, I can hide or delete comments.
I consider these Facebook pages my "parlor," where I don't allow guests to get out of hand. If you want to vent your spleen, you may share Icon posts on your own Facebook page.
Readers occasionally post comments without reading or perhaps without thinking. I am especially sensitive to comments on obituaries and on articles mistaken for obituaries.
Frankly, I get irritated by questions based on the headline alone. Commenters should always read the article linked in an Icon Facebook post before hazarding an opinion or question.
If I find assertions that require fact-checking or off-topic comments, I will remove them.
Have opinions to share? Please consider writing a letter to the editor, which may be emailed to [email protected].
