Letter: Regarding the article "Exploring Crash Density in Bluffton"

Letter to the editor from Josh Tattrie of Bluffton, Ohio in response to the Icon's July 13 article.

On 6/22/23 (Police Report # 2023-00003850) I was hit (t-boned) at the intersection of 103 and County Line. I was hospitalized and spent 3 days in the ICU. I was initially transported to the Bluffton ER and then the Findlay ER. I had internal bleeding on my brain. I cannot find where my accident was made public in the docket. Can you explain why?

To think the village wants to put up a bike path on such a busy intersection is beyond belief. When I returned home several days later there was a 3 car pileup at the same intersection! I have cameras on my home that catch in 4k detail the traffic speeding into and out of town on county line road. No one is scared to slow down.

The driver that hit me was estimated to be at speeds of 45-60 mph before he ran the stop sign and hit me. The police report says 35 mph, but no witnesses to attest to that. The police were on the scene in a very timely manner. The family resident at the corner also helped out a lot!

CONTINUES

Again, this is a concern because this is also the proposed bike path route down an insanely busy road. The family residence at the corner of 103 and County Line Rd. can attest to the large number of accidents every year. I see that for 2023 PDO – 0, INJ – 1 (Jan-Jun) per the article the numbers seem to be extremely low.

This intersection needs a lot more attention. I'm only alive because I sped up and the impact hit the door behind me on my side. The village administrator knows how dangerous County Line Road is. It's only a matter of time until a child or an entire family is hurt or worse.
