BFR summer session 3 sign up underway

Youth programming from July 22 to Aug. 16

Sign-up for participting in programming for Bluffton Family Recreation's Summer Session 3 is underway according to Daniel Tinch, BFR executive director.

Session 3 runs from Monday, July 22, through Friday, Aug. 16. The summer BFR newsletter, attached to this story lists programs available.

James Wellman named BVHS chief information officer

Blanchard Valley Health System  welcomes James Wellman, CHCIO as the organization’s new Chief Information Officer (CIO). Wellman will be primarily responsible for overseeing the strategy and development of the information technology department and will join the other members of the BVHS Executive Steering Council.

Update from Bluffton Cattle Club

The Bluffton Cattle Club met Here is the club's news, as reported by Landon Selhorst:

On Sunday, July 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. we will be having the chicken BBQ at the Bluffton Middle School. Cattle club members - be sure to wear your 4-H shirt.

Several committee meetings are on the Bluffton council schedule. Those follow:

Tree Commission Meeting - Tuesday, July 9, at 7 p.m.
Personnel Committee Meeting - Wednesday, July 10, at 7 p.m.
Ordinance Committee Meeting - Tuesday, July 16, at 7 p.m.
Personnel Committee Meeting - Wednesday, July 17, at 7 p.m.

Bluffton council hears more "animals in the village" discussion

Ordinance committee continues to research whether to create legislation limiting types of animals in the village

Responding to the June 24 Bluffton council meeting discussion of what type of animals are permitted in the village,  Nina Koontz of 180 Garmatter addressed the council on the subject.

At issue is whether the village has an ordinance prohibiting certain animals within the village limits. Village official state that they are not aware of any such ordinance.

She and her husband, Dan, own two mini-pigs that she says are household pets and also live outdoors.

War of 1812 played out in Hardin County

FROM ADA ICON - Independence Day weekend has a major focus on July 4, 1776. As they say, "there's more to the story." Here is a small piece and it is very close to Bluffton.

Sometimes we forget that there was a "Part 2" of the War for Independence, namely the War of 1812.

Recalling from your Ohio history courses, Britain wanted a do-over and invaded the still-young United States of America. The war spilled over into Ohio just shy of the state's 10th birthday.
