Food Pantry benefits Ebenezer Drama Ensemble mystery dinner theatre

Ebenezer Mennonite Church Drama Ensemble presents a dinner theatre at the church in August. Proceeds go to the Bluffton Community Assistance Program’s food pantry.

The performance of “Suspect Hollywood,” by Nancy Bond, a one-act mystery, directed by Kevin Gratz, will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 7-8-9, beginning at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Performances are in the Crossroads Center at the church, located at 8905 Columbus Grove Road, Bluffton. Tickets are on sale in the church office at $10 each.

71 years after graduating from BHS, the class of 1944 still gets together

They graduated from Bluffton High School 71 years ago.

• In 1944 the average cost of new house was $3,450.
• The average wages per year were $2,400.
• The cost of a gallon of gas was 15 cents.
• The average cost to rent a house was  $50 per month.
• The cost of a loaf of bread 10 cents.
• D-Day took place a few weeks after they graduated.
• The number one pop tune was "Swinging On A Star," by Bing Crosby

Blanchard River Watershed Partnership public service announcement wins Regional Emmy

“Remember Me,” a public service film highlighting the Blanchard River Watershed Partnership, was awarded a regional EMMY award for best Community/Public Service video. 

The award was presented at the Regional National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences gala in Lexington, Kentucky July 25.

"It was an honor to bring this regional EMMY home to Findlay,” said production company founder Ben Severance of Timber & Frame.

Rally Point River Ride Aug. 8

The seventh annual Rally Point River Ride is set for Saturday, Aug. 8 at Heritage Park, Lima.  Many families with young children participate in the 20-
mile ride on the Rotary River Walk.  Young bikers and
parents with trailers ride the 10-mile trip from Heritage Park to
Ottawa Metro  Park. Afterward, participants may enjoy lunch,
live music, and the Kid's Zone. There will also be a drawing for
four bikes for children ages 0-12, courtesy of Barbers Give Bikes.

Dorothy Gay 1934-2015

Dorothy Lou Gay, 81, died July 30, 2015 at Lima Memorial Hospital.  Dorothy was born July 14, 1934, in Michigan to Allery  and Vera (Verbicht) Rice who preceded her in death.

On Nov. 10, 1956 she married James Gay who preceded her in death on June 13, 2013.
Dorothy had been a homemaker.

Survivors include a son James (Lorraine) Gay of Beaverdam; three daughters Vera (Anthony) Vernell of Delaware, Ohio, Jennifer  (David) Deeds of Lima, Nancy (Steve) Schramm of Beaverdam; 18 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Art camp for K-3rd takes place Aug. 6-7

Bluffton Family Recreation announces Art Explorer Camp registration is now underway.

The two-day camp is for youth from Kindergarten through third grade. 

The camp is held Thursday and Friday, Aug. 6-7 from 9 a.m. to noon at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton.

Campers will make at least five art projects to take home. Also each day will include a snack and drink. Cost is $20 for members and $40 for non-members.
