Maple Crest hobby show Thursday evening - 16 residents show their stuff

You’ll see quilt runners, carved elephants, Indian artifacts, oil paintings, brass rubbings and lots more at the Maple Crest Senior Living Community hobby show, from 6:30-8 p.m., Thursday, July 30.

Free and open to the public, the show will be in the Maple Crest Patio Room, 700 Maple Crest Court, just off Augsburger Road, Bluffton. Sixteen Maple Crest residents will display their hobbies.

It's British Soccer Camp week at Bluffton Family Recreation. Here are a mini soccer camp for 4-, 5- and 6-year-olds. Camps run through Friday. The camp offers several class levels.

 

Beavers earn AVCA Team Academic Award

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that 752 teams have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2014-2015 season. This number once again breaks the previous year's total of 676 and sets a new all-time high for this award. 

Everett Collier brings the Ride Across America to Bluffton for a day

7 p.m. program at First Mennonite Church, open to the public, enables bikers to share their stories.

Bluffton is Wednesday’s stop on the 2015 cross-country Fuller Center Bike Adventure: Ride Across America.

Nearly 50 bicyclists will pedal into town mid-morning from Winchester, Indiana, where they spent yesterday. The trip covers about 90 miles. They will be in Bluffton overnight.

Their Bluffton visit is thanks to Everett Collier, who rode the 2014 adventure from coast to coast.

American Legion installs new officers on July 6

The Bluffton American Legion Post 382 held a banquet for members and their spouses July 6.

Following the dinner James W. Campbell, Department Commander of the American Legion of Ohio, swore in officers of the Post for 2015-2016.

United Way at 90% of goal; 50-50 drawing on Aug. 1

Almost 90 percent of the local United Way goal is met, according to Neil Reichenbach, UW treasurer.

He told the Icon: "To date we have raised $21,896.27 which is 87.59% of our goal of $25,000. 

"We have also decided to have our 50/50 drawing on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Farmers' Market at 11 a.m. 

"We will selling tickets  on Aug. 1, until the time of the drawing.  The current prize for the 50/50 drawing would be $173.50  before any possible ticket sales the morning of Aug. 1.
